Why Does SASSA Ask for Reapplication?
When your status shows "Reapplication Required," it means SASSA needs you to submit a fresh application. This is different from a decline or cancellation. The most common reasons include:
- Grant cycle expired: The SRD grant runs in cycles. When a cycle ends, SASSA sometimes requires everyone to reapply for the new period.
- Annual renewal: SASSA may periodically require applicants to confirm they still qualify.
- Policy change: If the government updates the SRD grant rules, a new application may be needed.
- System migration: When SASSA upgrades its systems, existing applications sometimes need to be re-entered.
How Is Reapplication Different from First-Time Application?
Good news: reapplying is simpler than applying for the first time. SASSA already has your basic details on file. You mainly need to:
- Confirm your personal information is still correct
- Verify your banking details are up to date
- Confirm your cellphone number
- Submit the application
You do not need to provide supporting documents again unless SASSA specifically asks for them.
Step-by-Step: How to Reapply
Enter your ID number and phone number
Use the same 13-digit ID and registered cellphone number from your original application.
Review your existing details
The portal will show the information SASSA has on file. Check that your name, banking details, and contact number are all correct. Update anything that has changed.
Submit your reapplication
Once everything looks correct, tap Submit. You should receive a confirmation SMS.
Wait for processing
Your reapplication goes through the same means test as a new application. Results typically appear within 2 to 3 weeks.
What Happens to Your Previous Months?
Reapplying does not affect previous months. If you were approved and paid for earlier months, that money is yours. The reapplication only affects future months from the point you resubmit.
If you were declined for specific months before reapplication was required, you can still appeal those months separately. See our appeals guide.

Once your reapplication is submitted:
