What Does Cancelled Mean?
Your SRD application is no longer active. SASSA has stopped processing your grant. This can happen for several reasons, and in some cases you can reverse it.
System Cancellation vs Self-Cancellation
There are two types of cancellation:
System cancellation: SASSA cancelled your application automatically. You did not request this. It happened because of a system rule or trigger.
Self-cancellation: You (or someone with access to your account) clicked the "Cancel" button on the SRD portal. This can happen by accident, or someone else may have done it.
Why System Cancellations Happen
- Inactivity: Your profile was inactive for an extended period with no status checks or updates.
- Failed verification: SASSA requested biometric verification and you did not complete it within the deadline.
- Expired grant cycle: The grant period you applied for has officially ended.
- Duplicate application: The system found more than one application linked to your ID number and cancelled the extras.
- Deceased status: Home Affairs records incorrectly show you as deceased. This is rare but it happens.
Can You Reverse It?
Sometimes yes, depending on the reason.

How to Reinstate Your Application
Enter your ID and phone number
Use the same details you registered with originally.
Look for the Reinstate option
If reinstatement is available for your profile, you will see a button or link. Tap it.
Verify your details and submit
Confirm your personal information, banking details, and cellphone number. Then submit.
When to Reapply Fresh
If the reinstate option is not showing on the portal, you may need to apply again from scratch. This happens when:
- Your previous grant cycle has fully expired
- A new application period has opened
- SASSA has changed the application process
See our reapplication guide for step-by-step instructions.
